Every year without fail, the annual comic festival known as Raptus have been held here in Bergen. Just like previous years it was great, or should I say, still great. This year we celebrated the fact that this celebration of the comic medium has been held at least 25 years in a row. A truly remarkable feet, so here is one for many years to come.
Like all good outings of this sort, half the fun I find by being a volunteer. Which means I do various tasks, get some swag, snacks, and good foodstuff. Especially after they switched out the baguettes for tasty wraps.
With a lot of effort and elbow grease, I dare say that I have managed to promote a healthy cosplay attendance here in town, by using the Spillhus.no as an all-inclusive and tolerant meeting place for nerdy people dressing up. After all costumes are good, harmless fun, outside of a few creepy people on the street. Seriously, who keeps barking after a cart girl? Some children really need to face a squirt bottle. But I digress.
The year of 2022 had some stellar guests, such as Thierry, Mike Collings, Mike Perkins, Mark Crilley and several local ones as well. We can’t forget lovely people such as Arild Midthun and Emili Sørensen. There was many more, but listing up names is the purpose of the Raptus website. https://raptus.no/gjester-2022. These wonderful individuals are half the fun. Because they bring comics, drawings, prints, and their presence. It is such a joy to meet the faces behind the art at times, especially at Raptus. Every guest is a bundle of joy and positivity. Something those stuck on Twitter is very much in the need of.
We have been trying to invite some Manga artists, but those are tricky to get over to Norway, plus there is the language barrier.
The stands provide a plethora of fantastic art pieces, stamps, and used comics. People selling their handmade works is a stable staple of any successful convention and well worth it.
The cosplay bit of the program was no slouch this year, with a good show that did not go over time and put the guest @izzydizzyspells in a room with the adoring costume aficionados afterwards. Which let them meet her in person and have a great time prattling about what to wear, and how to wear it and other such intricate details that cosplay and being on social media entails. The only thing missing is a good place for people to sit when idling.
A couple of other fun things of note. The comic Girl Genius is getting a game based on the story and an early alpha build was playable. Looks fun and competent thus far. Can not go wrong with the development studio Rain Games. The same can be said for InkyBuilds comic viewing app and subscription service over at the Nintendo Switch, it makes reading so much smoother than a browser window. According to their representative, it will eventually get transported over to pc and the Steamdeck
So here is to several decades more of ink filled entertainment goodness.
Njål Signing out.
